Hands-free devices such as Bluetooth headsets will still be allowed. This new California driving law will impose a fine of $20 for a first-time offense and $50 for each additional offense."

Green OfficeThe Green Office

Many work processes generate excessive waste. With the economy in a downturn and other costs higher than ever, here are five tips that reduce waste which can be adopted easily:
  • Reduce transportation fuel usage. Provide telecommuting flexibility and incentives for walking, biking and carpooling employees. Of course, Beanstalk Computing can help make sure your telecommuters are using safe data practices too.
  • Recycle. Paper, aluminum and certain plastics are the main recycling candidates.
  • Buy paper made with recycled content.
  • Use 'Energy Star' compliant appliances. You'll save energy and money.
  • Turn down the lights. This lowers the electric bill, generates less heat and reduces your summer cooling costs.

To find out if your computer equipment is energy star compliant, see this link. Beanstalk Computing is committed to helping you keep your office green! Call us to find out about how we can help your energy bill decrease by greening your office technology equipment today!

XP RIPMicrosoft stops officially selling Windows XP as of July 1st; Pledges Windows XP Support Through 2014

Since July 1st, you can no longer officially purchase a retail copy of Windows XP. That means no more boxed copies will be found at Best Buy. This also means that it will be a lot more difficult to find a new computer running Windows XP. But if, like Intel, who has not transitioned to Vista from XP even though they are so closely tied to Microsoft they are sometimes conjointly called "Wintel," you are not ready to upgrade to Vista in your environment, you still have options. Dell will still sell you a "downgrade" license to Windows XP Pro from Vista Home for a fee of $99. Another way to continue to get XP Pro even less expensively is through a high-quality refurbished IBM computer from Beanstalk Computing. And finally, a third way, the only official way to buy XP, is to get it preinstalled on a new class of ultra mobile PCs such as the Asus Eee PC

Firefox 3Firefox 3 has been released!

The Web is all about innovation and Firefox 3 sets the pace with dozens of new features, including the smart location bar, one-click bookmarking and blindingly fast performance.

I have been using Firefox 3 for a couple of weeks now and let me tell you, its blazing fast, very secure and so much better than Internet Explorer. But if you really need to visit a website that only works with IE, such as a site with ActiveX, I recommend the IE Tab extension for Firefox which will load a page in Firefox using the IE engine.

The Guinness Book of World Records has credited Mozilla for officially setting a record for downloads in a 24-hour period: 8,002,530 copies of Firefox when it was released on June 17th.

Now that you have got your Firefox 3.0 all downloaded and installed, you ask, what's so different about Firefox 3.0 over Firefox 2.0?

The Field Guide covers a lot of information and this video shows off some of the newest features.

HULUHulu: Watch your favories. Anytime. For Free.

Cancel your Cable. Hulu is awesome! A website loaded with content from NBC, News Corp., Sony and MGM as well as their various subsidiary channels like FX, Sci-Fi Channel, etc., offering anything from full episodes of Battlestar Galactica and Buffy to SNL Digital Shorts and an entire Russell Crowe flick, Master & Commander. It's Flash-based, it streams just like YouTube, and it's ad-supported, with bumpers and "commercial breaks," just like the TV it's trying to ape or maybe replace.
